ECU 2021 Data Retreat

    • Sub-topics: Financial aid processes/terminology for non-US citizens, Cataloguing non-credit intensive English courses, Registration for international students, Citizenship type data issues, Citizenship type process issues, SEVIS data, I20 text recognition, Standardized country list

  • Dates: February 22-26, 2021
  • Location: Virtual (five 90-minute sessions)
  • Sample guiding questions:
    • Whom do you identify as international students and how do you identify them?
    • How is your unit involved with international students and international data?
    • What processes are in place in your unit that impact people you identify as international students?
  • Expected outcomes:
    • Knowledge of accomplishments from 2020 data retreat
    • Awareness of the importance of data quality
    • Familiarity with financial aid processes/terminology for non-US citizens
    • To come to agreement among attendees to get ECULA students active course registrations
    • To deem international students a special population (determined by visa type) for early registration purposes
    • Come away with a shared understanding among participants about the definition of citizenship type and how that definition is being applied
    • Agreement that the list of citizenship types is complete for all purposes needed
    • Agreement among participants of official versus unofficial document standards and a standardized process for collecting, verifying, and storing citizenship type for incoming students
    • A discussion about which department should be responsible for updating citizenship and immigration records for continuing students
    • Identify processes to import SEVIS, I20, and REDCap data into Banner, Xtender, or the data warehouse
    • Decide on the list of country codes to include in STVNATN
    • Decide on follow-up re standardizing country codes and their use in Banner

    • Determining source of international student funding
    • Create international student attribute which can be assigned and associated with early registration privileges
    • Process to allow ECULA students to register for classes in Banner
    • Updating of visa type list and descriptions in Banner

    • Ensure congruence across units in how citizenship type is being used and reported
